Supreme Court: Power to Remit Sentences Lies Exclusively with State Govt - (27 Dec 2016)

Supreme Court, while noting that power to grant remission is exclusively that of State Government and not judiciary, has refrained itself from allowing any reprieve to four convicts who have served 25 years of their life sentence for murder of an elderly couple in Kolkata in 1991.
