SC: Recovery of Tainted Money Without Proof of Bribe Demand Insufficient for Conviction - (23 Sep 2026)

CRIMINAL

Supreme Court acquitted a Patwari convicted under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, holding that mere recovery of tainted currency, without proof of a bribe demand, cannot sustain conviction under Sections 7 and 13(1)(d). The accused had died while his appeal was pending.
