SC: Major Port Trusts Liable for Customs Duty on Pilfered Goods under Customs Act - (27 Aug 2026)

CUSTOMS

Supreme Court held that Mumbai Port Trust, though governed by the Major Port Trusts Act, 1963, is a ‘custodian’ under the Customs Act and is liable to pay customs duty on goods pilfered, lost or damaged while in its custody.
