Supreme Court: National Commission for Scheduled Castes Lacks Power to Pass Binding Orders - (29 Jul 2026)

CONSTITUTION

SC ruled that National Commission for Scheduled Castes cannot pass enforceable orders in service matters, holding that its powers under Article 338 are limited to making recommendations and offering advice. It consequently overturned the Bombay High Court's judgment affirming the NCSC's directions.
