Allahabad High Court: Surcharge Recovery From Pradhan Must Follow Panchayat Raj Act Procedure - (29 Jul 2026)

Allahabad High Court held that surcharge under Section 27 of the U.P. Panchayat Raj Act can be imposed on a Pradhan only after an inquiry by the Chief Audit Officer. It ruled that a District Magistrate-appointed committee lacks jurisdiction, making the resulting recovery order invalid.
