SC: Under JJ Act, Murder Falls Within Heinous Offences; S. 302 IPC Prescribes Minimum Life Sentence - (22 Jul 2026)

CRIMINAL

SC held that murder under Section 302 IPC (now Section 103(1) BNS) is a "heinous offence" under the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015. It ruled that although no minimum sentence is expressly provided, imprisonment for life is the implied minimum punishment under the provision.
