SC: Courts and Prosecutors Must Expedite Trials For Jailed Accused - (20 Jul 2026)

Supreme Court granted bail to a murder accused who remained in custody for over nine years, holding that courts and the prosecution are duty-bound to ensure an expeditious trial when an accused is incarcerated, and observing that the prolonged delay had shocked its judicial conscience.
