Bombay High Court: No Prior Sanction is Required to Prosecute Police For Custodial Assault - (13 Jul 2026)

CRIMINAL

Bombay High Court held that assaulting a suspect to extract a confession can never be considered an official duty of a police officer. Refusing to discharge three policemen accused of custodial assault, the Court ruled that no prior sanction is required to prosecute them.
