Madras HC: Centre’s Consent For Remission is Needed only When Sentence under Central Act is Ongoing - (05 Jun 2026)

CRIMINAL

Madras High Court held that the Central Government’s consent for remission is required only when the sentence under a Central Act is still pending. Once the sentence has been fully served, State Governments do not need Centre’s approval to grant remission to the convict.
