SC: Railways is Treated as a Consumer under the Electricity Act, Not a Distribution Licensee - (11 May 2026)

ELECTRICITY

Supreme Court held that Indian Railways is a consumer under the Electricity Act, 2003, and cannot claim deemed distribution licensee status to avoid paying cross-subsidy and additional surcharges to distribution companies.
