Calcutta HC: Vodafone Idea Must Obtain Copyright Society Licence to Use Songs as Caller Tunes - (11 May 2026)

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS

Calcutta High Court held that Vodafone Idea cannot use songs as caller tunes or ringtones merely on the basis of agreements with sound recording companies, and ruled that it must obtain permission from the Indian Performing Right Society Limited (IPRS) for use of underlying music and lyrics.
