SC Mandates Trial Courts Seek Reports on Mitigating and Aggravating Factors Before Death Sentencing - (29 Apr 2026)

CRIMINAL

SC has held that trial courts must routinely call for reports on aggravating and mitigating factors right after conviction and before sentencing in potential death penalty cases, warning that delay in obtaining them undermines balanced sentencing and proper consideration of reformative aspects.
