J&K&L High Court: IO Not Bound By FIR; Can Modify Offences in Final Chargesheet U/S 173 CrPC - (22 Apr 2026)

CRIMINAL

J&K&L High Court held that an Investigating Officer has wide powers to collect evidence and modify or add legal provisions in the final charge-sheet, and that FIR sections are not final. The Court was hearing a plea under Section 482 CrPC challenging framing of charges under Sections 302/341 IPC.
