J&K &L HC: Husband’s Girlfriend Not ‘Relative’ Under Sec 498A IPC, Cannot Be Prosecuted for Cruelty - (20 Apr 2026)

CRIMINAL

Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court held that a woman in an extra-marital relationship with a husband does not fall within the definition of “relative” under Section 498A IPC (Ranbir Penal Code). Hence, she cannot be prosecuted for cruelty or harassment under the said provision.
