The Minister for Science and Technology, Y.S. Chowdary, released figures for patent filings in the country.

The number of patents filed in India increased from over 42,000 in 2014-2015 to just under 47,000 in 2015-2016. A break-up of the figures indicates, however, that the surge in patent numbers is by foreign entities.
