Calcutta HC: Employers May Deduct Penal Rent From Gratuity of Employees Refusing to Vacate Quarters - (02 Apr 2026)

Calcutta High Court held that employers can deduct penal rent and other dues from the gratuity of retired employees unlawfully occupying company quarters, noting that allowing such conduct would encourage illegal retention and deprive serving employees of essential housing.
