Madras HC: Habeas Corpus Petition Cannot Be Used if Wife Voluntarily Elopes with Another Man - (19 Mar 2026)

Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court ruled in Murugan v. State that a habeas corpus petition cannot compel the return of a spouse who voluntarily leaves her matrimonial home, rejecting S. Murugan’s plea for production of his wife and two children who had been missing since March 6, 2026.
