SC: Public Servant Convicted of Bribery Cannot Seek Acquittal Merely Due to Co-Accused’s Acquittal - (12 Mar 2026)

CRIMINAL

Supreme Court held that a public servant who personally demands and accepts a bribe can be convicted under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 even if the conspiracy charge fails and the co-accused is acquitted. The Court set aside the Rajasthan High Court’s acquittal of an Income Tax Inspector.
