Cal HC: Theft Claims and Public Humiliation Alone Don’t Amount To Abetment of Suicide U/S 306 IPC - (04 Feb 2026)

CRIMINAL

Calcutta HC set aside convictions u/s 306/34 IPC, holding that while the deceased died by suicide, mere allegations of harassment or being labelled a thief were insufficient to prove abetment, as the prosecution failed to establish mens rea, instigation, or a direct act leading to the suicide.
