SC: Demolition of Private Property Must Rest on Clear Statutory Grounds and Due Consideration - (30 Jan 2026)

Supreme Court set aside the Calcutta High Court’s demolition order, holding that interference with property rights under Article 300-A requires clear, cogent, and site-specific evidence of illegality, which was absent to prove the Santiniketan building stood on “khoai” land.
