SC: Preventive Detention Cannot Override Bail and Requires Proof of a Threat to Public Order - (12 Jan 2026)

CRIMINAL

Supreme Court quashed a preventive detention order under the Telangana Goonda Act, holding that merely branding a person as a habitual drug offender is insufficient, and that authorities must clearly demonstrate how the individual’s actions posed a specific threat to public order.
