SC: Arbitrator’s Mandate Ends on Time Expiry; Substituted Arbitrator Must Continue After Extension - (11 Dec 2025)

ARBITRATION

Supreme Court held that if the 18-month period for issuing an arbitral award lapses without any request for extension, the arbitrator’s mandate ends under Section 29A(4) of A&C act. Thus, when the Court later grants an extension, it must appoint a substitute arbitrator under Section 29A(6).
