SC: Contempt Power isn’t Judges’ Personal Shield nor a Tool to Silence Legitimate Criticism - (11 Dec 2025)

CONTEMPT OF COURT

Supreme Court held that contempt powers cannot be used to silence criticism or shield judges, stressing that they must never become a personal armour. It added that since the power to punish includes the power to forgive, mercy should guide the Court when a contemnor shows genuine remorse.
