SC: If Complaint Reveals Cognizable Offence, Magistrate May Order FIR Registration U/S .156(3) CrPC - (05 Nov 2025)
CRIMINAL
Supreme Court held that if a complaint discloses a cognizable offence, a magistrate can direct police to register an FIR under Section 156(3) CrPC. Setting aside a Karnataka HC order, said the magistrate need only see if an offence is disclosed, not proved.
