SC: Proceedings under Section 125 of CrPC are Civil in Nature - (14 Jan 2025)

CRIMINAL

SC has observed that maintenance proceedings under Section 125 of Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 are essentially civil in nature and even if non-compliance with an order for payment of maintenance entails penal consequences such proceedings would not qualify as or become criminal proceedings.
