Supreme Court: States Have Right to Levy Tax on Mineral Rights - (25 Jul 2024)

Supreme Court by an 8:1 majority has held that royalty paid by mining operators is not in the nature of tax and the payments made to the government cannot be deemed to be a tax merely because a statute provides for its recovery in arrears.
