CIC dismisses appeal seeking up-to-date government email addresses

The Central Information Commission dismissed an appeal seeking email addresses of all governments, public authorities and organisations maintained by the National Informatics Centre. The initial request for information stemmed from the ‘bouncing’ of several emails sent by Appellant on email addresses listed on the website of public authorities. Respondent had declined to provide up-to-date email addresses at Appellant’s RTI request, information already being available in the public domain. It also contended before the Commission that release of all email addresses could present a security threat by choking the network and blocking access to NIC servers. The Commission concurred with Respondent’s submissions, and reiterated that the government was already in the process of “creating a communication hub on single platform”.
