SC: Writ of Habeas Corpus Cannot be Invoked for Granting Premature Release to Convicted Prisoners - (24 Jan 2020)

CRIMINAL

Supreme Court has observed that a Writ of Habeas Corpus cannot be invoked for granting plea seeking the premature release of a convicted prisoner. The Court observed that it is not for the Writ Court to decide whether a prisoner is entitled to parole or remission and these matters lie squarely in the domain of the Government.
