Supreme Court Sets Time Limit for Speakers to Conclude Disqualification Proceedings - (22 Jan 2020)

CIVIL

Supreme Court has set the outer limit as three months for concluding disqualification proceedings against defectors in anti-defection cases. The Court has recommended that the Parliament should amend the Constitution of India, 1949 to set up a permanent Tribunal to decide cases under the Tenth Schedule, given the partisan conduct of the Speakers.
