India's ranking in Global Innovation Index- (Ministry of Commerce and Industry) (30 Nov 2015)

India has been ranked 81st, down from 76th in 2014, in the Global Innovation Index 2015, a publication of Cornell University, INSEAD and the World Intellectual Property Organisation. The index covers 141 economies globally and uses 79 indicators to measure innovation quality. The government reiterated various initiatives to encourage entrepreneurship and research and development in the country, such as development in the Small and Medium enterprises sector and setting aside of Rs. 20,000 crore towards support for nascent businesses.
