Putin met for the 19th edition of the Annual Bilateral Summit in New Delhi on 4th and 5th October, 2018. Both Sides re-affirmed that being multi-cultural, multi-lingual and multi-religious societies, India and Russia bring civilizational wisdom to address modern day challenges. Both the sides discussed and agreed on various issues relating to economy, science and technology, energy, military- technical cooperation and international issues. <br><br> In energy sector, both the countries acknowledged the interest of Russian and Indian companies in cooperation in the field of LNG and welcomed the commencement of supply of LNG under the long-term contract between Gazrpom Group and GAIL India Ltd. Further, both the countries further acknowledged the potential for mutually beneficial co-operation in the energy sector, and encouraged their companies to consider a wide range of opportunities for cooperation, including long-term contracts, joint ventures and acquisitions of energy assets in both countries as well as possible cooperation in third countries. <br><br> In defence sector, both the India and Russia welcomed the conclusion of the contract for the supply of the S-400 Long Range Surface to Air Missile System to India, which will be a very big boost to air defence system of India and will further put India to a very advantageous position once the system would be included in Indian artillery. The Sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhance military technical cooperation between India and Russia, which has a long history of mutual trust and mutual benefit. <br><br> Further, both the Countries denounced terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and reiterated the need to combat international terrorism with decisive and collective response without any double standards. The Sides condemned all kinds of state support to terrorists including cross border terrorism and providing safe havens to terrorists and their network. <br><br> India-Russia co-operation dates back to the 1971 Treaty of Peace, 1993 Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between the Republic of India and the Russian Federation, 2000 Declaration on Strategic Partnership between the Republic of India and the Russian Federation and 2010 Joint Statement elevating the Partnership to a Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership.
